TALENTED young gymnasts are celebrating after impressing judges at a regional contest.

Youngsters from Barnard Castle Gymnastics Club attended the open competition, organised by Hartlepool Gymnastics Club.

It was the first time the club, based at Teesdale Leisure Centre, had attended the event and the children enjoyed competing against gymnasts from other clubs from across the region.

They also had the chance to win medals based on individual disciplines, such as bars, vault and floor, as well as on their overall performance.

Club coach Beth Guy said: “It was wonderful to accompany the children to the event and to see how well they performed under pressure. They trained so hard and we are incredibly proud of them all.”

Barnard Castle Gymnastics Club was set up three years ago and now boasts more than 50 competitive members.

Durham County Council, which runs the sports centre, also holds recreational and development classes for those who wish to improve their gymnastic skills without competing in events. To find out more, contact 03000 260 862.
