RUNNERS, walkers, dog walkers and horse riders are being invited to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee by joining in a fun race at Woodland.

It will be the third time this year that the Woodland Triangle event has been staged in the village for charity.

Organised by running enthusiast Tim Smith, the 5km and 10km route see entrants set off from the Edge Hotel, before returning to the start, which is proving popular with more than 100 people at the last event. It raised hundreds of pounds for the air ambulance service.

Mr Smith said cash from the jubilee event would go to the Freeman Hospital’s Children’s Heart Unit Foundation (CHUF) where Cockfield youngster Olivia Wall underwent four operations to recover from pulmonary atresia.

A small group from Evenwood Road Runners attended the previous “Walk the Walk” event.

Mr Smith said: “They absolutely loved it.

“They will be bringing a lot more people this time because a lot of them were at another race last time.”

The horses will be the first to set off at 10.30am, on Friday, June 3, followed by the runners, walkers and finally the dog walkers.

Registration starts from 10am at the Edge Hotel.
