Rugby sessions help tackle summer boredom

YOUNGSTERS were put through their paces learning new throwing techniques ahead of the rugby season.
A good mix of girls and boys spent the day at Barnard Castle Rugby Club’s pitches
on the upper Demesnes getting used to passing and
tackling when they took part in a taster session.
The event was organised by the club’s junior section chairman and lead coach for the under sevens, eights, and nines, Andy Howard, who is hoping to inspire more youngsters and adults to get involved in the sport.
Mr Howard, who got involved in coaching with the club when his son began playing in the under sevens team, said the club have been working closely with schools in the dale.
He said: “We have done some sessions at Staindrop Primary School as well as Green Lane and will be come the autumn be working with Teesdale School to try to inspire some new players to take part.
“We need the new talent to come through but ideally we also need parents to get involved as the more people who are able to coach
means we can coach a lot more.”
