Durham Cricket League Division 2

Evenwood 209-4 dec

Hunwick 104

A CLUB record fourth wicket stand of 174 between Luke Bannister and Shahid Khan laid the foundations for a hard fought Evenwood victory against Hunwick, who held out for 39 overs before their last wicket fell.

Evenwood won the toss and batted on a slow low pitch.

Hunwick made the early running, removing skipper Billy Teesdale for five, fellow opener Owen Peddelty for three and Thomas Teesdale for a single.

However, Bannister and Khan dug in and began to dominate.

Khan eventually offered a return catch to Dan Keegan when he had reached 88, while Bannister remained unbeaten on 86 as Evenwood called time after 45 overs.

In reply, Hunwick made no attempt to go for the runs. Mohammed Shoaib bowled ten accurate overs for just 13 runs, picking up opener Paul Alderson along the way.

Shahid Khan took 2-23 from his nine overs, while youngsters Thomas Teesdale (2-11) and Regan Maughan (1-15) impressed.

It was left to Billy Teesdale, coming on third change, to see his side home with a spell of 4-29 in seven overs.

The win keeps Evenwood third in the table, 16 points adrift of second placed Littletown, who rolled Murton over for just 34.

This weekend could be a defining one for Evenwood's season.

Evenwood play Langley Park while Littleton face leaders Ushaw Moor.
