TWO dale crews competed in the Cheviot Rally at Otterburn Military ranges on Sunday, September 22.

The fast Tarmacadam roads provide a difficult challenge, the bumpy landscape making pace-note calls from co-drivers especially important.

Mark Thompson, from Staindrop, and Joe Hutchinson, from Eggleston, tackled the stages in a Morris Lubricants sponsored Peugeot 206 GTI.

They made a good start over the first five stages holding 18th overall and first in class however, a technical problem in stage six cost them nearly two minutes to their time.

Mark and Joe bounced back setting top 20 times in the remaining seven stages to finish 23rd overall and second in class, missing the class lead by only eight seconds but happy with their pace.

It was be a learning day for Dan Thompson, from Ingleton, and Andrew Hutchinson, from Evenwood, in their Vauxhall Corsa.

The pair were on their first event together and the cars’ first on Tarmac in Dan’s hands.

They would had a fantastic day thoroughly enjoying the speed of the event and setting competitive class times throughout. They finished 29th overall and fourth in class.
