AS part of a busy week at Raby Castle CC, the first All Stars session of the season was held. This year, 43 children aged five to eight are taking part in the ECB programme to introduce youngsters to the game – the best ever numbers for the club.
The first U11 and U9 teams played their first games in the Durham Cricket Board Junior League, while the joint Raby/Middleton-in-Teesdale CC U15 side Teesdale Titans U15s side enjoyed their first taste of action and the U13s continued their good form.
First up for the Titans was a match at Middleton against a strong Hunwick/Bishop Auckland side.
The Titans managed 35-8 in reply to the Hunwick/BA total of 116-2.
Then later in the week, the Titans took on Crook U15s.
Batting first, Elliott Davis hit 33 out of the Titans’ 53 all out. Crook knocked the runs off without losing a wicket.
The U13s enjoyed a good win at Evenwood in the second match of the RS Pratt Memorial Trophy series.
Raby won the match by 10 wickets after restricting their hosts to 38-7 off their 20 overs.
Rhys Lamb top scored for Evenwood with a hard hitting 19 and he was ably supported by Isla Milroy who finished 8 not out, while Thomas Dodds batted a long time for his one run.
Beth Poole (1-5), Finlay Kirkup (1-1), Joseph Kirkup (1-0), Noah Hoyle (1-7), Joe Brookes (1-2) and Harry Tellegen (1-10) all bowled well.
Raby openers Joe Brookes (7) and William Poole (27) quickly knocked the runs off.
Man of the match was Joe Brookes for his all round play and the fielding award went to Reilly Milner for some excellent ground fielding.
The U13s’ next match is at home to Hunwick tonight (Wednesday).
For Raby CC U11s’ first match in the junior league, Hunwick were the visitors on a damp Sunday morning.
Hunwick batted first and made 45 for the loss of 4 wickets. Dominic Wire top scored for Hunwick with 14.
The Raby wicket takers were captain Beth Poole 1-7, Louis Morris 1-13, William Bellas 1-2 and Theo Swan 1-0.
In reply Raby scored 79 for the loss of one wicket. Bertie Morris with 19 and Theo Swan with 13 scored the majority of the Raby runs with Dominic Wire taking the only wicket to fall.
At the same time the two clubs played an U9s match with Raby winning by 20 runs.
This week the U11s have match at home to Evenwood.
