A TEESDALE schoolboy has struck hockey gold playing for England Schools.

Deputy head boy at Barnard Castle School Cameron Lewis was selected to play for England Schools U18s at the school games, held in Loughborough from August 30 to September 2.

The 2018 School Games National Finals, supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, is a major multi-sport event for the most talented young athletes across the UK and has provided a pathway for many gold medal winning Olympians.

The hockey finals saw representative teams from Ulster, Scotland and England play four tournament round robin games with England coming through to win the gold medal.

Cameron, from Ovington, has been a regular participant in England Hockey’s national performance programme since 2013 and has previously been a part of England Hockey’s U16s futures cup, winning team in August 2016, the first time any team representing the north of England had won the competition at either U16 or U18 level.

Cameron, who previously played Hockey for Richmond Hockey Club, is training with Durham University with a view to playing with them for the forthcoming season.
