SOME of the top bronze league senior lady golfers in County Durham and Cumbria converged on the club for a tournament last week.

Fresh from a 4-2 victory against Northumbria the week before, 12 members of the County Durham Senior Ladies Golf Association (CDSLGA) took on their counterparts from across the border.

A quarter of the County Durham team are from Barnard Castle – Yvonne Carr, Marion Robinson and Shirley Smith.

Barnard Castle ladies’ captain Caz Smith, who is also secretary to the CDSLGA, said it was an honour for the tournament to be held locally during her year as captain.

She added: “I am quite pleased to be hosting it. The course is in absolutely superb condition. The hospitality and the course play a big part in attracting players back to the club.”

She added that it was also an opportunity to showcase the club facilities which had been completely refurbished earlier in the year. Durham won the tournament against Cumbria 5-1 and secured the Dorothy Harrison and Mouli Moore Shield.
