CHILDREN from Barnard Castle Gymnastics Club are celebrating success after taking part in a regional competition. The young athletes took part the recreational floor and vault competition at Gateshead Leisure Centre.

The event, hosted by Metro Gymnastics Club, welcomed 300 gymnasts from across the region.

Each child performed twice on vault, followed by an individual floor routine in front of large crowds including family and friends.

Anna Metcalf came first in the 10 and under girls category, with Alice Whiting and Imogen Carter-Sedgewick in joint sixth. Daniel Maughan secured fifth in the 10 and under boys group.

The club is also celebrating the achievements of Izzy Marshall, who came fifth in another competition in Hartlepool. Coach Michael Connelly said: “The children have done so well in the competition, which had a huge number of entries. It was the first competition for some of the children and only the fourth experience for others.

“They are learning and progressing all the time and we are looking forward to our next one, which will be a four piece and takes place in June.”

Teesdale Leisure Centre offers gymnastics for children from three to 16.

There are currently a limited number of spaces available. For further information, call 03000 260 862.
