BATTLING ON: Redwell rangers manager paid tribute to the efforts of his small squad despite heavy defeats

THE manager of a dale side which suffered a 29-0 defeat on Saturday says the team will battle on until the end of the season.

Redwell Rangers formed last year and joined the Saturday set-up at the start of the season, but have struggled to reach the standard of the other sides.

They have yet to win in the league, conceding 74 goals in seven matches.

Against division two leaders Stanhope Town SSC in the Colin Waites Cup, Redwell were on the end of their biggest defeat to date.

Despite the reverse, manager Dave Short paid tribute to his small squad of players who continue to turn out, despite knowing they are likely to be on the end of a drubbing.

“We only had ten players on Saturday. I had to play and I’m injured,” he said.

“That was embarrassing on Saturday, but I’ve got to give it to the players. The lads have got heart. They keep coming knowing they are going to get beat.”

Mr Short said the thought of folding hadn’t crossed his mind, insisting the club will continue to fulfil its fixtures until the end of the season and then look to switch to the Wear Valley Sunday League.

In the meantime, any players looking for a game are welcome to get in touch. Contact Mr Short on 07539 798871 or find Redwell Rangers on Facebook.
