AN inaugural art workshop day has been hailed a success by organisers when they held it at The Hub, near Barnard Castle.

The taster day was organised by members of Teesdale Art Network (TAN), a group of artists living and working in Teesdale, to encourage more people to try out a range of different artistic techniques.

People attending the workshops got to try out a variety of different techniques including batik painting, silk paper making, felting and free motion stitching, guided by the artists themselves.

Although TAN members host workshops each year as part of their open studios, the event was the first time they had joined together in one venue and there are hopes to run more in the future, given the demand on the day.

Artist and TAN member Suzanne Williams said: “It’s been a great day and it’s lovely to see so many people getting involved and it would be great to hold another.

“What has been great is how much everyone has really got on board with the workshops. We had some funding left in the year and to be able to hire a venue large enough to cater for us was great.”

Already TAN has released its 2020 open studio dates, which will run from May 23 until May 31. Members will also host a month-long exhibition at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, from April 30 until May 30.
