LOCKDOWN means many people are creating make-shift offices at home, but one Barnard Castle teacher has gone a step further by turning her dining room into an early years’ classroom.
Nic Linsley, deputy headteacher at Green Lane Primary School and early years lead teacher, has recreated her classroom environment in her dining room, which now has dinosaur bunting, phonic visual aids and reading materials so remote lelessons have a resemblance to normality.
She said: “It is only the first week but all the parents have been so supportive.
“We are trying to make lessons as practical as possible so that the children are not sat in front of screens all the time.
“Having all the visual aids helps the children so they still feel like they are in a classroom.”
Youngsters log onto Microsoft Teams for their daily lessons, which are a mixture of phonics, science and maths. Ms Linsley added: “As well as science, which we have enjoyed making dinosaur eggs with balloons last week, we also do a show and tell. We’re trying to keep them talking to each other as much as possible.”
