THE Mid Tees WI group meeting was hosted by the Ingleton and District branch.

The meeting started with the singing of Jerusalem to a recording that had difficulty keeping up with our enthusiastic rendition.

Susan Kitching, president of the hosts, welcomed 35 group members and Freda Laverick, county chairman.

Jackie Bateman read the minutes and financial statement from the group meeting dated October 12, 2022. They were agreed and signed by Susan.

Reports were given from each of the six member institutes of the Mid Tees group.

Susan then introduced Freda who told us of her long relationship with the Mid Tees group and how familiar to her we all were.

She has always enjoyed her visits to the various institutes. Susan thanked Freda for her kind words and introduced Jackie who was about to tell the meeting about her cruise to Iceland.

This was Jackie’s first holiday travelling solo. She showed us pictures of the cruise ship and of Iceland, including the ports that she visited.

She had anecdotes about her adventures, making friends with fellow travellers, enjoying the facilities of her cabin and the ship and using the Hop On Hop Off bus in Reykjavik.

Iceland proved every bit as expensive as expected in Reykjavik, having had to use a bank card to access a loo, which was later discovered to cost £1.19.

Diana Wilks, from Ingleton and District WI, gave the vote of thanks.

Afternoon tea was served, followed by the raffle. The result of the competition for a limerick, judged by Freda, was announced. This was won by Staindrop WI. They were presented with the trophy. Sue Robson, from Whorlton WI, gave the vote of thanks and invited everyone to the next group meeting which Whorlton will host.
