CHRISTMAS TIME: The tree gets put into place in Barnard Castle on Saturday

IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas – even though this year’s festive season is shaping up to be like no other due to the Covid-19 situation.
Barnard Castle’s Christmas Lights committee arranged for the town’s tree to be lifted into place last weekend.
However, the popular public switch-on of the tree lights and other associated activities – including the first sight of Santa at the Methodist church – will not take place. The event, which would have taken place this week, normally attracts a huge crowd of revellers.
The Christmas tree was brought to the bottom of Galgate on a low loader trailer thanks to AWSM Farming Ltd, while S&A Builders Merchants was on hand to lift it into place.
Roger Peat, of the Christmas Lights committee, thanked all those who had helped.
He said outdoor lighting specialists from Christmas Plus were due in town this week to fit the illuminations to the tree and also resolve issues with some of the lights on The Bank.
