A FAMILY run curry house in Barnard Castle has again wowed industry judges after been named best restaurant in the North East at the Bangladesh Catering Association (BCA) awards in London.
Babul’s received its fourth award this year after undergoing extensive redevelopment of its restaurant and fighting for survival, like all businesses, through the pandemic.
Babul’s stood out from hundreds of entrants from the North East which were judged on innovation, presentation of food, hygiene standards and customer service.
The owner of Babul’s, Shuhel Ahmed, said: “To be recognised by our industry and peers is amazing. We’ve been trying to do things a little different – we’ve experimented with new styles of cooking and brought in a new type menu. This award is such an honour and hope we’ve done dad, and our local community, proud.”
Mitu Choudhury, secretary general of the BCA, said: The winners are creating some of the best curries in the country and we need to support them.”
