CLOSED: Barnard Castle’s mini-golf course will remain closed pending the Government’s decision on when lockdown restrictions will be eased

PREPARATIONS for the seasonal opening Barnard Castle’s mini-golf course have been postponed until more information is received about when the Government plans to lift Covid-19 restrictions.
Barnard Castle Town Council officer Claire Atkinson told a meeting of the services committee the course needed to be power-washed and staff recruited.
She added that under normal circumstances preparations would be already underway in time for it to be open for Easter.
Ms Atkinson said: “We have a slight issue with the recruitment of staff this year because a lot from previous years have now gone on to university. To enable the opening we would have to interview and recruit.
“My suggestion would be that we look at opening the mini-golf for the start of the summer school holidays to give us time to prep and recruit. I don’t personally see we would benefit from getting it power-washed as we usually would at this stage. I think it is a waste of money if it isn’t going to open.
“I am really conscious that I don’t want to waste money prepping for a maybe or a might be.”
The committee agreed to wait until the Government announces when lockdown restrictions will be lifted before making plans to open the facility.
