FAIRTRADE projects led by pupils at Staindrop Academy have helped to make a difference.

Year seven students raised £153.30 as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Split into groups, they were each given £5 to set up a business using Fairtrade products. Sweet treats, such as biscuits, cupcakes, fruit kebabs and a chocolate fountain, were on offer as pupils from the rest of the school showed their support during break time.

PSHE co-ordinator Stacey Nicholson said: “As part of PSHE lessons, we have been looking at Fairtrade and the impact it has on communities.

“Global learning is an important part of the PSHE curriculum. The students have been really engaged in it. So much effort has gone into their projects. They have worked together really well.”
