SUPPORT for Barnard Castle’s Richardson Community Hospital has continued during the second lockdown with the purchase of a urinalysis machine for Starling Ward.
This will facilitate on site analysis of urinary tract infections instead of samples having to be sent off to the laboratory.
Iris Hillery, of the hospital’s friends group, said: “We first purchased such equipment for the hospital 17 years ago.
“As this item had come to the end of its useful life we were pleased to replace it to continue the enhanced service to provide speedy and effective treatment for patients with such infections.
“Members of staff have received training on the equipment which is now in service.”
The equipment cost just under £1,000.
Although meetings of the friends group are currently suspended, the committee continues to function online and will be organising a Christmas Stall on December 16, at the Wednesday market, under the charity stall scheme run by Barnard Castle Town Council.
Anyone who would like more information about the friends’ activities should get in touch via the group’s Facebook page where details are also available about the online fundraiser and craft items are for sale. Alternatively, email contact@forh.org.uk or contact Iris on 07919 344845.
