A NEW collection point where people can drop off donations for a community foodbank has been installed at The Witham, in Barnard Castle.

The Storehouse organisation has launched the new collection point in an effort to meet the rising demand for their services as people struggle financially with rising costs.

The donation point can be accessed every Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm in the garden at the arts venue.

Storehouse runs a community food bank at Barnard Castle Methodist Church every Friday from 4pm until 6pm, serving people in the local community, giving out meals and other essentials to all who come in.

So far this year they have already given out more than 3,400 meals to people within the local area.

As well as providing food, they operate uniform banks and donate baby hampers to people who need them.

Food items such as UHT milk, tinned meats and fruit, noodles, rice and cereal are always in demand and organisers are hoping many will give generously.
