MORE than 200 residents enjoyed picnicking in the park on Sunday, June 5, to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee.

Although the sun didn’t make an appearance during the event, organised by the parish council working with the Friends of Cotherstone School and Play@ Cotherstone, this didn’t put a damper on festivities when guests donned red, white and blue outfits.

About 20 volunteers prepared packed lunches for guests and a cardboard cut-out of the Queen was a welcome sight when they arrived at the village hall, where there was a comprehensive exhibition charting the history of the village through the years.

During the afternoon, parish councillor Cllr Vince Bendin presented inscribed jubilee medals, purchased by the group, to children in the parish.

Guests were also encouraged to make and bring along their own crowns as part of a competition.
