WED FOR LESS: Jules Mehan at Marie Curie has created a wedding window

THE average cost of a wedding can run to tens of thousands of pounds and the cost of getting hitched can be a bar to many tying the knot.
However, a Barnard Castle charity shop has been inundated with positive comments since it unveiled a “wedding window”, which proves getting wed on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish.
The display at Marie Curie, in Horsemarket, includes outfits for both the bride, groom, two bridesmaids, a flower girl, page boy as well as the mother of the bride and groom – all for just £318.
Manager Jules Mehan came up with the idea. She said: “I just wanted to prove you don’t have to spend a fortune for a fabulous wedding to look really stylish. You can look priceless without the price tag.
“I donated the vintage wedding dress but all the other clothes have been gifted to the shop.
“I even made a model of a wedding cake using old hat boxes.
“We’re also such a throwaway society now and by buying pre-loved clothes it’s good for the environment.”
