FESTIVE goodie hampers to thank parents for the support and help shown during the Covid-19 pandemic were handed out to families in Evenwood.

Although term had officially finished, staff at Evenwood School spend three days putting together 67 hampers for families.

Rachel Stevens, parent support advisor at the school, said: “It is really a massive

effort to give every family something for Christmas to support them and to say thank you for all their hard work during the lockdowns and throughout the year.

“Evenwood is a very close community and the school is at the very heart of that.”

The hampers were filled with a variety of essential food items such as rice, beans, coffee, tea, cereal and eggs, as well as treats of cakes, crumpets and sweets. There were also bumper bags of fresh fruit and vegetables for each family, as well as handy information leaflets with telephone numbers of support lines for those affected by Covid-19.

Mrs Stevens, who has been planning the festive treat for three months, added: “We received funding from the Gregg’s Foundation for the breakfast club and we were able to apply for an additional £1,000 to fund the hampers. We’ve also taken donations from a number of local companies.”

Evenwood and Ramshaw Community Association, C & A Roofing Group, Clarks Eggs and supermarkets Morrisons and Asda donated food items and Durham Box provided boxes for the hampers. Fresh fruit and vegetables were supplied by the Auckland Project.

Families collected their hampers from the school on Monday, December, 21.
