RESIDENTS at Abbeyfield, in Barnard Castle, enjoyed good music, food and entertainment with invited guests as part of celebrations to mark the Queen’s jubilee on the first bank holiday.

As well as musical entertainment, residents and guests, who included town mayor Cllr Rima Chatterjee and her consort Sue Kirkbride plus towncrier Ian Kirkbride, tucked into a sumptuous afternoon tea prepared by staff.

It was the first time in three years the supported living facility had been able to host an event due to Covid restrictions and trustees, staff and residents were delighted to be celebrating together.

Prior to the party students from Teesdale School six form talked with residents about their memories of the Queen’s coronation and put together an exhibition on the day.

Trustee Stan Bedwell said: “It was a lovely project seeing the different generations interacting with each other.

“A lot of the residents have led very interesting lives and have lived in all parts of the world.”
