ON THEIR WAY: Ros Seagrave and Sabrina Parker need to raise £7,200 for Butterwick Hospice to go on an epic adventure

AN intrepid pair of Gaunless Valley women are half way to their charity fundraising target that will send them on an Arctic adventure.

Ros Seagrave and Sabrina Parker, from Evenwood, have to raise £7,200 for Butterwick Hospice to be able to take part in a survival week in Sweden.

The pair reached their initial goal of reaching half the fundraising target by the end of April and have raised £4,731 so far by hosting coffee mornings, charity nights and other event. This summer they are planning a coast-to-coast cycle ride. If they successfully raise the cash the twosome will face tough conditions during their adventure.

Ms Seagrave said: “This involves making our own snow shelter, surviving outside in freezing cold temperatures, melting snow to drink and surviving on basic rations.

“It is a massive amount of money to raise and we are asking people to help us fundraise by donating in anyway they can no matter how small it seems. Every penny counts.”

The first few days of the survival week are spent in a cabin without electricity or water, after which they will have to make their own igloo-like structure to live in. They will also get to do husky sleigh rides. The pair are no strangers to adventure and have previously spent the night in makeshift shelters in Hamsterley Forest, done a muddy boot camp and taken part in a zombie run. All were done for charity.

Ms Parker said: “We love a challenge and are always doing silly things.”

Their next fundraising event is a family fun day planned at Gill Beck Stables, in Ramshaw, on Sunday, August 11.

The day will include stalls, games, pony rides and bouncy castles. The fun starts at 10am.
