NO GO: Helen Goodman, who stood as a Labour candidate in the West Auckland ward

FORMER Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman has failed in her bid for election to Durham County Council.

Ms Goodman stood for the Labour Party in the West Auckland ward but came in fourth place.

Labour's Rob Yorke and the Conservatives' Mark Roberts were elected, with another Tory, Declan John Gilroy, finishing third.

Mr Yorke retained his seat with 1,023 votes with Mr Roberts polling 993.

Turn out was 36.99 per cent.

Counting in the two Barnard Castle wards and in Evenwood takes place tomorrow (Saturday).
