PEOPLE are being urged to have their say on a consultation for Durham County Council’s latest economic strategy in a bid to bring more jobs to Teesdale.
Teesdale county councillors say there are not enough industrial and commercial units in the area to allow for economic growth.
Deputy leader of the council Cllr Richard Bell is calling on people to take part in the county’s “Big Econversation” survey to highlight the shortage of suitable sites for development in Teesdale.
He said: “The local county councillors are keen to identify sites for small industrial and commercial units across Teesdale, as the current ones are full.
“Although the questionnaire is not area specific, there are opportunities in the comments boxes to make specific points.”
He added that the first question in which people are asked if they agree they have access to a variety of good jobs is an opportunity to highlight the problem.
Cllr Bell said: “Promotion of economic development in County Durham has got to be across the whole county, if we are to have vibrant, sustainable communities that enable our young people to have job opportunities and our villages schools to stay open. Making the Teesdale voice heard in this survey is part of that.”
