DOGS of all shapes and sizes – along with their owners – strode out as part of a global event.

The Great Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW) is held annually to raise awareness of how retired racers and other sight hounds can make perfect pets.

As part of the event, which saw walks organised from New Zealand and mainland Europe to the US and Canada, a group of dog lovers stepped out in Hutton Magna.

As well as greyhounds, there were Spanish podencos, a springer-collie cross and even a maltipoo – a cross between a Maltese terrier and a poodle.

Among those taking part was Anne Dodson, from Ovington, who had brought along 18-month-old lurcher Monty, who she had rescued as a puppy.

“He was full of fleas, worms and in an awful condition,” she said.

“It has taken a long time to get him right.”

Penny Jacques and her partner Peter Smith, from Barnard Castle, had rescued their three Podencos while living in Spain and brought them back when they returned to the UK.

The Hutton Magna walk took participants from the village hall along country roads and farm tracks before returning for to the hall for refreshments.
