THREE long distance cyclists popped into a care home to take a break from their gruelling marathon fundraising ride.

The intrepid cyclists took a break from their 800-mile charity bike ride and called in on staff and residents at King’s Court, Care UK’s home in Barnard Castle.

Andrew Knight, Jacqui White and Tony Weedon, all directors of Care UK, set off from Poole in Dorset at the beginning of May to raise cash for the Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer’s Scotland and the Care Workers Charity.

During their journey the trio visited 26 Care UK homes where local team members and residents staged a variety of fundraising events.

Care UK has said they will match fund the money raised.

Mitch Lloyd, care home manager at King’s Court, said: “Given that none of them are bike riders it is absolutely amazing what they are doing for charity.”

The Barney welcome was focused took the theme of Beautiful Teesdale, with residents and staff transforming two bikes into floral tributes.

While waiting for the trio to arrive, a specially adapted bicycle was on hand so staff could take residents on short trips around the King’s Court car park.

The trio reached their destination in Aberdeen last week, raising more than £18,000.
