A DALE pipe and drums band is two snare drums richer thanks to a donation to celebrate Burns Night.

Vintage Pipe and Drums, based in Winston, received the new instruments from the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes during Startforth Lunch Club’s Burns supper on Monday, January 23. It is the third time the lunch club has hosted a Burns supper at the village’s community centre and the traditional haggis was piped in by the band, before the full eight verses of Burn’s Address to the Haggis was recited.

A donation of £160 for the new drums was organised through Malcom Bonnett, who is a member of the charitable order as well as the pipe band. However, the band is still looking for a bass drum. It would cost about £200.

Startforth Lunch Club, which has about 40 members, is welcoming more people to join. Anyone interested can attend a taster session for £6. Debbie Herbert who organises the club, said: “We are different from other lunch clubs because most weeks we have some form of entertainment such as bingo, quizzes and organ recitals.”
