A POPULAR riverside area which has become something of a faded beauty has been given a new lease of life, thanks to Barnard Castle’s band of volunteer workers.
The Roman Way picnic area – formerly known as the Sculptor Garden – had become unkempt and overgrown after years of neglect. It was established by the former Teesdale District Council in collaboration with local artists and schools.
Workers were out in force last week removing weeds and undergrowth, cleaning signage and improving the surface. The group also plans to remove high growing nettles and will make sure the area remains in tip-top condition throughout the summer.
