WOODLAND primary school invited parents and guests to their jubilee celebrations last week when they enjoyed an afternoon tea and traditional 1950s games loaned by Teesdale Lions that included a coconut shy, giant snakes and ladders and bagatelle.

They also enjoyed lots of 1950s tunes and children who receive music lessons played the national anthem on recorders, before Cllr Cliff Harding presented children with special jubilee medals, purchased by the parish council. The school, the greenest in County Durham, continued its eco ethos with jubilee decorations, recycling plastic drinks bottles into red, white and blue flowers, which pupils helped to display at various locations throughout the village. Panels of patriotic-coloured flowers have been put on railings at the village’s cemetery, outside the church and along the school entrance fence. The panels have been fitted with lights so the displays can be enjoyed at night.
