TWO groups are working together to provide transport for young people as well as community groups.

Teesdale YMCA has bought a new mini bus, which will allow young people to go on trips.

The YMCA is working with The Hub’s Community Transport Scheme. This means that when the mini bus is not being used by YMCA, it will be hired out by The Hub to other community organisations.

Rachel Dyne, operations director for YMCA, said: “The mini bus allows us to provide opportunities for the young people we work with in Teesdale.

“The trips families with cars take on the weekends can sometimes be taken for granted – but these are not possible without transport.

“The young people are already planning trips to swimming centres such as Wet ’n’ Wild. Some are planning trips to ROF 59, in Newton Aycliffe.

“These are places they have wanted to go for so long but due to the cost of public transport, their families have just not been able to make it happen.

“Thanks to this mini-bus, we can now ensure that it is possible.

“ These activities are a great way to get the young people more active, improving their mental and physical wellbeing and an opportunity we would have had to fund.

“Now we can provide it without the worry of hiring costs.

“The fantastic thing about the partnership with The Hub’s Community Transport Scheme is that it sees two local organisations working together to increase capacity for the benefit of the local community.”

Rachel Tweddle, from The Hub, said: “We are so excited to be working with the YMCA and cementing our partnership further with this fantastic resource.”
