VOLUNTEERS at a dale animal rescue and conservation centre has bid a fond farewell to a French student who completed a summer internship at the sanctuary.

Wetheriggs Animal Rescue and Conservation Centre has been welcoming French students for the past five years and this summer they hosted Pierre Elichondoborde, from Bordeaux.

On his return home, Mr Elichondoborde, will continue with the third year of studies into agriculture and food.

He said: “We have to do an internship every summer on a farm and in a laboratory.

“But this [Wetheriggs] is a bit special because it is a charity. It was a perfect experience for me.

“I have improved my English and I was really welcomed here.”

Having worked with goats during a previous internship, he was particularly interested in the centre’s drove of rare breed golden Guernsey goats.

Meanwhile, the centre is currently looking for a home for two large pygmy goats, called Black and Dekker, who were dropped off about two months ago.

Anyone interested in giving the goats a home can contact Terry Bowes on the centre on 07764 352835.
