BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS: Michel Hedley with a selection of his flowers

THERE was plenty to delight the senses in the produce tent, much to the delight or Bowes Show organisers.
The late decision to stage the show had left a question mark over the level of entries to their years horticultural, industrial and children's classes.
In the event, section secretary Denise Marmont said exhibitors had come forward with more than 1,000 entries.
“We have got quite a few new exhibitors this year, which is good to see. All in all, it's been very good. There has been a lot of support and a lot of help.
“The only competitions we couldn't offer this year due to the lateness of the decision to stage the show were the sunflowers and the potatoes, as they would have had to have been started during the last lockdown.”
It was familiar face who took home the trophy for the most points in Bowes and Gilmonby and most points overall.
Lynn Todhunter had entered almost 20 items into the produce section this year.
Mother and daughter Hazel and Susan Addison also had plenty to smile about.
Hazel's magnificent scarecrow won first prize, while Susan's stunning winter snow scene won the award for best photo as well as helping her to the cup for most points in photography.
There were plenty of entries from the youngsters.
Eleven-year-old Megan Lowe, received the cup for the best art exhibit from a pupil at Bowes School with her picture, while Sophie Bellas, 9, from Barnard Castle, won the award for best exhibit in the junior produce section with her tasty chocolate selection.
Brian Smith's stunning shallots were judged the best vegetables on show and Michael Hedley, from Cotherstone, once again took the honours with his flowers.
