NEW LOOK: Keeping it in the family Thomas and Matthew Littler rebranded their fish and chip shop Barnard Castle Fisheries

A BARNARD Castle fish and chip shop has undergone a complete rebrand for the new year – 13 months after coming under new ownership.
Brothers Thomas and Matthew Littler actually took over Katie’s Traditional Fish and Chips, on Horsemarket, in November 2020 after the business was established by Katie Barker, who had taken on the takeaway from previous operator John Moore.
With business booming, the brothers put the rebrand on the back burner.
Thomas, 25, said: “It’s been really busy since we took over and we’ve just been concentrating on running the business.
“We’ve dragged our heels a bit with the branding but we didn’t want to do it when we were busy and thought we’d wait until it was a little quieter.”
The chip shop has been transformed into Barnard Castle Fisheries but the brothers say they are keen to carry on providing top quality fish and chips and good customer service.
Thomas added: “It’s been pretty good working alongside someone who you really know and trust.”
The brothers, who grew up in Yarm, have worked in the hospitality industry all their lives.
Initially they helped their father in his business, before working at the Fox Hall and then at Katie’s Traditional Fish and Chips.
Matthew, 23, said: “Our dad was in the game for about 25 years so it’s in the blood. For me this is what I’ve always wanted to do.”
Thomas added: “We love working in Barnard Castle as it’s a lovely place to be and we’re looking forward to building up the business together.
“For us it’s all about getting the best quality fish and potatoes and making sure our customers leave with a smile on their faces.”
