A LANDMARK hotel has unveiled a new £50,000 bar and food offer.

Walworth Castle hotel has launched 1189 Bar and Kitchen, which takes the total spent improving facilities by owners Rachel and Chris Swain to £8million since they took over in 2000.

Named after the year the castle dates back to, the newly refurbished 1189 Bar and Kitchen is open daily from noon until 9pm, serving a range of traditional dishes created by head chef, Steven Myers and his team.

Mrs Swain said: “We wanted to provide a casual eating space with a comforting menu, providing everything from light snacks to Chateaubriand.

“Chris and I are completely passionate about Walworth Castle and its been our life’s work to getting it to where it is today.

“Over the years we have refurbished throughout and two years ago we launched Lady Palmers Pavilion, which provides outdoor wedding facilities,” she said

Mr Swain added: “You can never rest on your laurels in such a fast moving industry.

“We are always striving to improve what we offer and this is the reason for launching 1189 Bar and Kitchen.

“We wanted to create an environment where guests can come and enjoy a drink and a snack or a delicious three course meal.

“We wanted to create a friendly, professional environment where everyone is welcome, whether they are resident at the hotel or a stand alone diner.”

He added: “Having recently won Best Western’s Small Hotel of the Year, this has given us the springboard to let people know that Walworth Castle has changed considerably over the recent years, and we are excited to welcome customers.”

The 32 bedroom hotel, which employs 45 staff, also boasts a holiday cottage and the newly refurbished gatehouse lodge.
