NEW CHALLENGE: Katy Davies has left Kyle Travel to concentrate on her work with Slimming World

A SLIMMING consultant who practices what she preaches has turned her passion for losing pounds into a full time occupation.

Katy Davies lost four stones while attending weekly Slimming World classes.

Following her success, she started running a Monday evening class in Barnard Castle for the company alongside her full time job as a travel consultant at Kyle Travel in the town.

She has now taken the plunge to leave the travel business and take on extra classes, devoting her energies to helping slimmers lose weight.

Ms Davies, 38, from Newsham, said members of her Monday evening group had lost a combined 367 stones between them since she started running the group in January 2017.

“Having lost weight myself I know what an enormous difference it can make to your life and so being able to help people to change their life like I have really is the most rewarding thing,” she said.

“For the last 20 months I have been running the Monday night group alongside my full time job as a travel consultant.”

She added: “It’s been a busy time slotting in meetings and promotions but I am passionate about my role as a Slimming World consultant so I have taken the plunge and will be leaving Kyle Travel at the end of the month. I was offered the opportunity to run another group and I’ve grabbed it with both hands.

“I love being my own boss and I’m lucky to have the flexibility to continue to enjoy a busy family and social life.

“I am excited that I will have more time to support my members and reach out to even more people.”

Not to do things by half, Slimming World groups in town also have a new venue.

Both her regular Monday 7.30pm group and Ms Davies’ new Tuesday meetings – at 5pm and 7pm – are based at St Mary’s Parish Hall, in Newgate.

Ms Davies said it meant Slimming World in the town was returning to familiar surroundings.

“Jeanette Thompson relaunched the very first Slimming World group in Barnard Castle in the parish hall back in 2004 so the groups are going back to their roots,” she said.

Under the new arrangements, the current consultant Louise Coxon will continue to run the Tuesday morning sessions at 9.30am and 11.30am, which will also be held at the parish hall.

Ms Davies said: “I know the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, I will be there to support every one of my members all the way to their chosen target weight.
