CHILDREN from Staindrop Primary School have performed their production of Mary Poppins in front of an audience of more than 100 people.

Pupils began rehearsals shortly after the half term for the hour-and-a-half play.

Teacher Lesley Davidson said the annual play is chosen to be best suited to the class and then it is tailored to them.

She added that this year’s play is particularly relevant because of the recent release of Mary Poppins Returns in cinemas.

Ms Davidson said: “Ours is the old version which is nice for the parents because they can sing-a-long.”

The play also fits in well with the class’s recent topic around the history and heritage of mining.

The cast gave three performances last week, including one in front of the rest of the school and staff, and afternoon and evening performances for parents and people from the village.

Mrs Davidson said: “The children are having an absolute hoot.”
