THREE of the dale’s most prominent artists have collaborated to stage a joint exhibition in Barnard Castle.

ArtSeen features work by Ann Whitfield, Jane Young and Jen Wyse, and is currently on show at the gallery in The Witham.

And in an unexpected bonus, the trio was invited to set up earlier than planned thanks to the gallery space becoming available.

Ms Whitfield said while all three had exhibited widely, it was the first time they had come together to stage a display. All three cite Teesdale as playing a big part in their work.

Ms Whitfield said: “I draw my inspiration from the wilderness of the northern landscape, be it hills and dales or the quiet beaches and rocky foreshores of the north east coast.”

Ms Young added: “My walks down by the river where I live in Teesdale are a never ending source of inspiration, creating a sense of calm and peace which I aim to translate into my work.”

Ms Wyse said it was moving to County Durham, in 1999, that gave her the chance to focus more on her art.

“Working from my studio in Teesdale, I like to draw on my life’s experiences and convey my love of nature on canvas.”

The exhibition continues into December and admission to the gallery is free during The Witham’s opening hours.
