A DALE author is celebrating the publication of her tenth children’s book with a series of storytellings over the summer.

Barnard Castle writer Kay Wilson will be providing the sessions at the Hub and St Mary’s Parish Hall from the end of the month.

Her latest book The Night The Spots Grew and Mixed Up The Zoo is handmade.

She said: “It is about a cheeky pack of monkeys who broke out one night and painted everything in sight.”

Born and raised in Barnard Castle, the former Teesdale School pupil started out writing poetry and had her first book, Teesdale Tales and Various Versus, printed by the Teesdale Mercury in 1994.

Her first children’s book, The Christmas Fairy and Other Children’s Poems, was published the same year.

She said she turned to writing for children after entering a competition.

She added: “I won three times in a row, so I thought, wow, there is something here.”

All of her books are available at Barnard Castle Library.

The sessions at The Hub take place on Mondays, July 23 and July 30, and August 6.

Sessions at the parish hall taken place on Wednesdays, July 25 and August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

The events cost £2 and include storytelling and craft.
