NEW RECORD: Barnard Castle singer Rebecca-Anna Hosey celebrates getting her Masters with a new EP released on Friday. Rebecca-Anna is currently based in Brighton

A SINGER-songwriter from Barnard Castle will release her first new music for almost two years this week.

It will be a double celebration for Rebecca-Anna Hosey – who records and performs as Rebecca-Anna – as she has just gained her Masters in popular and contemporary music at Waterbear, The College of Music, in Brighton.

Ms Hosey moved to the south coast immediately after completing her BA Hons in popular music at New College, Durham.

She said taking a leap into the unknown and heading for Brighton has been a huge success.

“I felt I had exhausted everything I could get from Durham and it was crazy – I found the Waterbear course on a whim, looking through YouTube videos,” she said.

“I researched it and the more I looked the more I thought it was exciting.

“It’s definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has taught me so much about the industry, production and studio work. I have new skills.”

Her new EP, Known Too Late, began life as a project for her Masters.

“I started working on it for my final project and it ended up being something I could commercially use,” she said.

“It’s a concept EP about lessons I have learned over the last six or seven years centring on relationships and friendships.

“I am really excited to release new music.

“The foundations of the writing is the same but there are different sonic elements.

“Through being in Brighton, I found a producer who really understands what I am going for.”

She added: “I have been recording since I was 12 years old and I am an artist who now really understands what she is doing.”

Despite completing her Masters, Ms Hosey plans to remain in Brighton, at least for the short-term.

“I don ’t think I am done here yet. There is more to get from here, more experiences and more people to meet. It’s a city unlike any other with the arts and culture. It’s just stunning.”
