THEATRE lovers will be treated to something not usually seen in Barney at two forthcoming shows.
First up tonight, Thursday, May 24, is Frankie Vah, the second verse play by poet and performer Luke Wright.
The one-man play tells the story of a 1980s ranting poet called Frankie Vah – who was he and does anyone remember him?
The performance deals with themes of love, loss and belief set against the backdrop of 1987 politics, when Margaret Thatcher won a third term of office as prime minister.
The show is a follow up to Luke Wright’s award-winning debut verse play What I Learned from Johnny Bevan.
Frankie Vah has received rave reviews and comes to The Witham, Barnard Castle, as part of a national tour.
Then on Wednesday, May 30, the Old Kent Road dance group brings Fall Out to The Witham’s stage.
It's a show that combines jazz and tap dance, with musicians and dancers feeding off each other.
The Witham marketing manager Sarah Gent said: “How often do you get the chance to see professional tap dancing here in Teesdale?
“We recommend this as a half-term treat for families – especially those with young dancers – as well as for adults too.”
She added: “Children will love the movement, live music and rhythm whereas grown-ups can enjoy the exploration of the theme of falling out of live. It’s a brilliant show and accessible to all.”
Tickets for Frankie Vah are £10 and £8 for students; admission for Fall Out are £12 adults, £10 for U16s.
