PERFECT SETTING: The walled gardens at Raby Castle will host an outdoor cinema later this month

CINEMA fans are being invited to open air socially distanced screenings at Raby Castle later this month
A big screen will be set up in the castle’s walled gardens and pitches seating up to six people will be mown out in the grass with two metres between them.
Visitors will be able to enjoy some of the biggest blockbusters of recent years, including The Greatest Showman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Aladdin and The Lion King.
The feature film version of Downton Abbey, which includes a mention of Raby Castle, will also be shown along with the latest adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, a tale that takes Belle to an enchanted castle.
Screenings will be held at 5pm and 8.15pm daily between Friday, August 21, and Sunday, August 23. Picnic boxes and children’s food boxes can be ordered in advance and food and drink will be available to buy at the event.
Visitors can also bring their own picnics.
Hannah Fretwell, marketing and events manager, said: “We are delighted to be bringing outdoor cinema to Raby Castle for the first time and this promises to be a wonderful experience for film lovers who have missed going to the cinema.
“We’ve got some absolutely fantastic films lined up, and the cinema area will be carefully managed to ensure that guests have a safe and enjoyable cinema experience.
“We invite people to pack their picnic rugs and join us for a unique outdoor experience in a stunning setting.”
She said the event is already proving popular, with some movies already close to capacity.
Tickets must be booked in advance. Movies will be shown in a specially created outdoor cinema – not a drive-in.
