CALLING all fans of musical theatre – the recently formed Teesdale Operatic Society want to hear from you.

The group, which was launched late last year, has organised an open meeting for Thursday, March 5, at Barnard Castle Methodist Church Hall, and anyone interested is invited along.

The society is planning its first two projects – a fundraising show in June and then a three night run plus a matinee performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in December.

Dawn Trevor said she and other founder members of the society had been busy since first unveiling details of the new group in November.

“The big news is we have a musical director – in fact a husband and wife team, John and Jane Hunter, from Grinton, who have previously been involved with Richmond Operatic Society.

“They did Richmond’s last three productions and have come over to help us.”

Ms Trevor and fellow founder member Adele Tyler said there had been a lot of interest shown in the society.

“We’ve got more than 100 people on our mailing list and 150 followers on Facebook,” said Ms Tyler.

“We have been and made friends with both Richmond and Darlington operatic societies, who have both been very supportive.”

Ms Trevor added the fact the society was happy to get children involved had also gone down well with would-be members.

“It gives us more of a community feel.”

They said anyone was welcome to come along to the open meeting on March 5.

“You don’t need to have any experience, you don’t need to be able to sing or read music. There are all sorts of ways to get involved,” said Ms Tyler.

“The first thing we will be working towards is the concert on June 12, which is a fundraiser for the society.

“It will be a cabaret evening, with a musical theatre theme and a music quiz.”

Ms Trevor added: “Come along, have a cup of tea and we will talk a bit about the group and what we are wanting to achieve.”

Doors open at the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Ms Tyler said the group was also keen to find out more about a former Barnard Castle Operatic Society and anyone with any memorabilia and information would also be welcome along to the meeting.
