TUNING UP: Paul Place will be welcoming acoustic musicians to Gainford Village Hall for monthly sessions starting this Friday, April 13

MUSICIANS are being offered a unique opportunity to get together and share their love of acoustic tunes in Gainford.

Building on monthly music sessions that have been held in the village hall for the past year, Gainford Acoustic Sessions will provide people with somewhere to play music, listen to others, enjoy a drink and have a good time.

Guitarist and singer Paul Place, who is a member of dale folk band Gegenforde, will be helping to run the sessions on the second Friday of every month starting this week, Friday, April 13.

He said: “It all started about a year ago. Gegenforde had been going for a number of years and had been playing around the area.

“We often had people approaching us, showing an interest in the band and wanting to join in. Of course, eight members is big for a band anyway so we came up with the idea of an open night at the village hall.

“Now the sessions have got their own identity.

“They provide a unique space and opportunity for musicians, or people who appreciate music, to jam together or perform for others and learn from others.”

The informal sessions will be held in the supper room from 7.30pm to 10pm. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of ability, age or preferred music type.

Mr Place said: “Whatever type of music people want to bring, they can but it is acoustic. You don’t have to be a talented musician. The idea is to just come and have fun. Every session is different.”

The cost of the village hall hire is covered by donations.

A minimum donation of £3 is suggested for each session. Those attending are encouraged to bring along their own drinks and snacks. Kitchen facilities are available to make hot drinks.
