ON THE COMEDY BEAT: Former police officer Alfie Moore will perform his new comedy show at The Witham, Barnard Castle

EX-POLICE office turned comedian Alfie Moore will be leading an investigation into what makes Teesdale folk laugh when he performs in Barnard Castle early next month.

Well known for his long running Radio 4 comedy series It’s A Fair Cop, he stops off at The Witham on Saturday, May 7.

As a recently retired police sergeant he has carved a niche in the comedy world, bringing a wealth of insights and comedy moments from more than 20 years on the front line, where a keen sense of humour was the key to his success. His latest show, Fair Cop Unleashed, is based on a dramatic real-life incident from Alfie's police casebook.

The audience is invited to relive with him the thrilling ups and downs of the night a mysterious clown came to town and more than one life ended up in the balance.

It was no laughing matter at the time – but he is hoping the show packs a big punch.

Promoter Peter Dixon, of Funny Way To Be Comedy, said: “Alfie Moore did a work in progress performance for an earlier show last summer and it turned out to be the hottest ticket that season, selling out.

“He presents both an interesting and very funny evening. He has an observational comedic style, which lends itself to witty, and sometimes gritty, anecdotes based on everyday modern policing.

“Alfie gets his collective audience to make the policing decisions as he takes them through real-life crime scenarios, in hilarious fashion.”

Mr Dixon added: “He also is an adept socio-political commentator and brings this all together with his take on the ‘comedy gold’ of life.”

Tickets for the show, priced £16, are available now from funnywaytobe.com or The Witham box office.

The show is suitable for those aged 14-plus.
