ON TOUR: Comedian Mark Burrows will talk about The Magic of Terry Pratchett

AN award-winning writer, who won plaudits at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year, will take to the stage at The Witham, Barnard Castle, this autumn when he delves into the back story of one of Britain’s best-selling and beloved authors.

Journalist and comedian Mark Burrows was presented with the Locus Award for his biography of Sir Terry Pratchett, published four years ago.

Painstaking research archival research, interviews with friends and contemporaries who know the real man under the famous black hat, helped Mr Burrows piece together the full story of Sir Terry, from his childhood in the Chiltern Hills to status as a national treasure.

With a background in stand-up comedy Mr Burrows took his one man show, The Magic of Terry Pratchett, to the Edinburgh Fringe last year and received rave reviews.

Now to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Discworld, Mr Burrows is touring the UK with the show, The Magic of Terry Pratchett and has been lined up at The Witham on Thursday, October 3.

The show will explore Pratchett’s life, influences, impact, wit and wisdom from his days as a school librarian to his time as a trainee journalist and ultimately his death from Alzheimer’s in 2015.

Peter Dixon, from The Witham, said: “It was a big hit at the Edinburgh Festival last year. The posters were everywhere and it was sold out.”
