BAK ON THE ROAD: Ray Laidlaw, left, and Billy Mitchell are bringing The Lindisfarne Story to The Witham this month

MUSIC legends Billy Mitchell and Ray Laidlaw are heading to Barnard Castle for an evening of songs and stories about the band in which they made their name.

The duo will tell The Lindisfarne Story through a combination of rare video, previously unseen photos and acoustic versions of the band's classics when they take to the stage at The Witham on Saturday, March 16.

Ray and Billy created the The Lindisfarne Story in 2012 as a new and original way of performing the band's music. They toured the show in 2015 and 2016. Since they were last on the road, the band's story has continued to develop.

A play based on the music of lead songwriter Alan Hull called Clear White Light was produced, there's a new biography of the band and a new line-up Lindisfarne fronted by original member Rod Clements is back out performing.

Ray said it was good to be back on the road with The Lindisfarne Show again.

“We talked last year about doing it again. It is such good fun. It's a great way to spend a few weeks,” he said.

“The music is timeless – that's why we did it in the first place. This is right up Barnard Castle's street. If you are from the north of England, the songs are part of the DNA.

“People don't remember who was in the band but they do remember the songs. They have stood the test of time.

“It's a lovely story. If I wasn't part of it I would go and see it. You just have to love live music and music of the 60s and 70s – you don't need to be a fan of the band,” he said.

Tickets for the show are £20 in advance and £22 for any on the door. For more details, contact The Witham box office on 01833 631107.
