IF you go down to the woods this weekend, you may meet your worst nightmare.

The living dead will be swarming through the Grove at Hamsterley Forest, on Sunday, October 21, looking for unsuspecting victims, in the fourth Butterwick Zombie Run.

In this exciting and challenging 5k run, runners have to tackle obstacles and smoke grenades, as well as evade the flesh-eating horrors, in an attempt to reach the “Safe Zone” and life-saving decontamination.

Jo Wallis, Butterwick’s head of marketing and fundraising, said: “We’re all looking forward to a horror-filled day in preparation for Halloween, and we’d love to raise £10,000 for the hospice.

“This is always a popular event and we’ve even got a zombie dog coming on the day.

“People go to a lot of trouble to look as awful as possible, so there will be a prize for the best zombie outfit.”

At the moment, the zombie population needs boosting, so if anyone has a knack for artistic make up, a taste for blood, and think they can hunt someone down, register on line at www.butterwick.org. uk/events/zombierunuk/.

Alternative, if athletes think they can quick enough to outsmart their pursuers, register as a runner.

Runners get a utility life belt with three life tags which the zombies will try to steal from you.

Reach the Safe Zone with at least one life tag attached and you’re home and dry…and alive. Lose all three and the zombies have won.

Zombies can hunt for free, but come dressed for the part and be ready to go.

Runners will pay a fee when they register to prove that they can outsmart their foe.

Chasing and being chased is thirsty work, so there will be refreshments available to buy on-site.

If you’d rather not take part, the hospice is still grateful for any sponsorship or donations that will enable them continue their valuable work to the local community.

Register online at www.but terwick.org.uk/events/zom bierunuk/or turn up and pay on the day.
