SINGER, songwriter and guitarist Sam Carter brings his “bittersweet electric folk” to Barnard Castle this weekend.

Since being named best newcomer at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards he has been stirring audiences from home and abroad, having caught the eye with a performance on Later... with Jools Holland.

Described as the finest English-style finger-picking guitarist of his generation, he has toured the world, performing intimate solo shows on acoustic guitar, on electric with a full band, and collaborating with other artists

Sam’s third solo album, How The City Sings, was released in April 2016.

He will be performing songs from this and his extensive back catalogue at The Witham on Saturday, March 23.

Sarah Gent, The Witham’s marketing manager, said: “Live music matters here and we urge you to come and enjoy one of the UK’s finest guitarists.

“We’d love to encourage young people to come along to this gig – if you are 16 years or under and have a group of four or more friends who would like to book tickets, please contact me direct at sarah.gent@thewitham.org. uk for a group discount.”
